James Lee Burke (good to read - WONDERFUL
to listen to as a book-on- tape) However, I did go on his web sight and
wrote him an ugly e-mail concerning his last Dave Robichaux book -- I
won't say why but if you are a fan, you already know! 1 of my
mind-games is trying to decide who would play Dave Robichaux in a movie
(1 has already been made but it was miscast and awful!). Already
know who should play Bootsey, Batiste, Clete & Alafair.
-
Nevada Barr (have all her books -- signed by her)
Nevada's writing improves with every book but even if it didn't, I am fascinated by her character,
Anna Pigeon. She is also a transplanted to Mississippi Gal &
a Episcopalian !
-
Greg Iles (another Mississippi
boy doing great!) Great variety !
-
Alice Hoffman (off-beat -- great
writer -- super imagination)
-
C. J. Box (male version of Nevada Barr)
-
Stuart Woods (Super to listen
to on tape! Stone Barrington is sexier by far than oo7 ever was !)
-
Pat Conroy (THE BEST writer alive today --
no one puts together words as beautifully as he does -- I don't want his
books to end!)
-
Anne Lamont (funny, real,
irreverent, deeply spiritual & my kind of woman)
-
Dan Brown (Only read 2 of his: THE DEVINCI
CODE & ANGELS & DEMONS -- or is it DEVILS ??? -- my copy burned up so I
can't check! Anyway, the under-girding subject made me think and
runs closely to what I believe: "the CHURCH discounted(s) women &
tried(s) to keep them in their place which is somewhere below
men!"
- John
McDonald (He's an old timer -- dead I think -- but I love
listening to his Travis McGee series on tape! I compare Travis McGee
books-on-tape to Jimmy Buffet's music -- not going down in musical
greatness history but
who can resist a Marguerita or a Cheeseburger!)
-
BOY'S LIFE - Robert McCammon (his other books
are very good & he is an excellent writer. However, he gets too disturbing for me!)
-
SUMMER SISTERS - Judy Bloome (why
have I never read any of her other books ?!? Think I'll go to the
library and see what's there!)
- SKIPPING CHRISTMAS - John Grisham
(Another Mississippi boy who's done well and this is my favorite (well,
THE PELICAN BRIEF and
THE FIRM were good too) and really funny. And, this 1 reminded
me of the year Ronnie & I ran away for Christmas & took our best
friends, Lu & Randy, Lu's mom, their son from L.A., & our senior
cat, Tim, with us. WAS THE BEST CHRISTMAS WE EVER HAD!
-
DEVINE SECRETS OF THE YA YA SISTERHOOD
- Rebecca Wells (don't bother going to the movie or reading that
awful
sequel! YUCK !)
-
THE SHEPARD - Frederick Forsyth (actually
all this books are great & I read every one until about 6 years ago when I
got tired of WWII and spies and all that. This isn't any of those
things !)
-
THE WIZARD'S TIDE - Frederick Buechner
(Ops, TELLING SECRETS is another fabulous 1
of his too !)
